The development team behind Skyblivion, the Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remake utilizing the Skyrim engine, has revealed that the game’s release has been delayed. After originally kicking off as an Oblivion port project 13 years ago, the full-fledged fan-made remake, which Bethesda has supported, has now announced that the Skyblivion release window has moved to 2026.
Fans of Oblivion, Skyrim, and The Elder Scrolls in general have been excited about the potential that Skyblivion is offering. As the years have gone by, the developers have revealed more about the game, showing off the progress that has been made, the way that the project has evolved, and even the first fifteen minutes of gameplay in Skyblivion.

Oblivion Remake Skyblivion Gets Delayed
At the start of 2025, the completion of the Skyblivion project looked to be approaching, with the team revealing that the game would be launching the same year. Steady drip-feeds of new information and reveals have been shared in the time since, with the most recent being gameplay shown off in August 2025. Anticipation has been building for plenty of fans, but unfortunately, the team behind the game has now revealed that the release date has been pushed back to 2026.
Evan T. Flatt of the Skyblivion team shared the delay on the official site for the game, stating that the team has put tireless work into the project and that “the game is in the best state it has ever been.” However, the team decided that in order to deliver a project that’s as stable and polished as possible, it’s become necessary to move the release window into 2026. The main issues the team is still working on include completing the final 3D assets and interior design for the Imperial City, and finalizing the navmesh so that NPCs and monsters correctly pathfind and work properly. Once the navmesh work is complete, the team says it “directly clears the path” for implementing the last quest lines and debugging them.
While this news will no doubt be disappointing for fans who have been awaiting the project for so long, there were some new reveals regarding how much progress has been made since the last major update. The team explains that the entire map is now complete, and the website now offers an interactive satellite map so fans can see what to expect. All quest dungeons have been completed, remade with unique boss battles and rewards, and most major 3D assets, including weapons, armor, and clutter are “essentially” finished. A new video also demonstrates what’s been completed, what’s still in the works, and underlines the team’s commitment to the project.
Though the Skyblivion project will have been in the works for over a decade by the time it finally reaches players, it’s come a long way from its initial roots. Originally, the plan was to simply port Oblivion onto the Skyrim engine, before pivoting into a full-fledged remake in 2014. The content of the original game has been expanded, cities like Leyawiin and Anvil have been expanded, and scrapped elements from the original game, like Sutch being a full-fledged city, have been incorporated into the Skyblivion project. Once the project is finally released, fans of the original Oblivion will be able to explore what they’ve already come to know and love, while also discovering the team’s unique additions to the title.
The Elder Scrolls franchise as a whole has only seen a few projects over the years since Skyrim‘s 2011 release. The Elder Scrolls Online launched in 2014 and is ongoing, and Skyrim has been ported repeatedly, most recently with the Skyrim Anniversary Edition, which launched in 2021. Bethesda surprised fans of the franchise when it revealed its own official Oblivion remaster earlier in 2025, which saw instant success upon being shadow-dropped. At the time, gamers were concerned that Oblivion Remastered would mean the end of the Skyblivion project after so many years of effort. However, Bethesda has embraced Skyblivion, even inviting the developer team to visit Bethesda’s offices, and granting them free game keys for the official remaster. As Skyblivion has evolved into a unique experience, players should be able to find things to enjoy in both the official remaster and Skyblivion when it finally launches in 2026.
