Brand-new roguelike Megabonk is continuing to blow up on Steam with massive concurrent player counts. Megabonk has taken Steam by storm following its recent launch on September 18.

The Steam page for Megabonk promises a roguelike experience where players can “smash your way through endless waves of enemies and grow absurdly powerful,” all tied together with charming retro-style graphics. Visually, Megabonk is a real throwback, while taking inspiration from some of the best modern roguelikes to deliver a fun experience. Clearly, the indie action roguelike is resonating with players on Steam.

Megabonk Reaches Over 60,000 Concurrent Players on Steam

The player charts for Megabonk on SteamDB are blowing up right now, with 60,002 concurrent players and rising at the time of writing. It’s consistently going up from its all-time peak, so players are hopping on for the weekend to see what all the fuss is about. Word of mouth is excellent, too. Of the 5,750 Steam reviews for the game, 94% are positive, giving Megabonk a “Very Positive” review score, which is undoubtedly helping the game at this point. Particular praise was reserved in many reviews for Megabonk‘s difficulty and addictive nature, two areas any roguelike should look to excel in.

With its huge player counts, it’s not clear exactly how many copies Megabonk has sold so far. The developer said that 100,000 copies had been sold as of September 21, but the game has continued to reach considerably higher player counts since then, so it’s a fair assumption that this number is now a lot higher. There have been a few notable successful indie games in 2025, including the likes of Schedule 1 and REPO, so it’s great to see Megabonk join the club.

Megabonk has already released a patch aimed at addressing players’ early feedback about the game, with the developer claiming it will “of course keep updating and adding free content” going forward. This is exciting news for those already enjoying the game, as it seems it will only get better in the coming months. For those who haven’t had the chance to try the game yet, Megabonk currently has an active Steam deal until October 2, bringing it down to just $8.49 (a 15% introductory discount).
