Fire Emblem Shadows Beginners Guide

Fire Emblem Shadows is a PvPvE online strategy game based on the acclaimed series created by Intelligent Systems and distributed by Nintendo, and players can already enjoy this mobile game to their heart’s content. But since it’s a game that is quite different from the usual Fire Emblem title, players might get a little confused.

From picking sides to choosing the right Disciples (characters) to battle, and learn the basics of tactics and how to progress through the game, this guide will cover all the basics and tips for beginners, allowing players to enjoy Fire Emblem Shadows to the fullest.

How To Progress With The Story/Game

There are two basic progression systems in the Game: one is related to the Characters (Disciples) power level, and the other is related to the Main Story. Completing battles, unlocking new Disciples with Soul Fragments, and increasing the overall battle power of the player will automatically progress the story, and players will be able to enjoy these episodes from the Story Tab.

Now, the game also requires players to unlock Two Different storylines: Light and Shadow. Battling for each of these sides will progress the story for each and unlock certain Disciples exclusive to either side.

How To Unlock More Disciples

As mentioned before, Unlocking Disciples through the Main Story is the safest route to getting more characters (for each side). Though there’s also another way to get more Disciples, and that is to trade Soul Fragments at the Bazaar with other players. The price of Each Soul Fragment is determined by the player selling it, and players need to invest Gold to acquire them.

Some Disciples are exclusive to the Premium Season Pass, so players should consider purchasing access to these extra rewards if they want to unlock all the characters. Players will still need Crystals to upgrade their characters, and these are earned through Battling, completing challenges, or Season Pass Levels.

How To Advance Season Pass

The Season Pass can be advanced by fighting Battles and completing challenges. Challenges might vary depending on the character players choose, or the side they choose, so keep this in mind before diving into Fire Emblem Shadows PvPvE action.

Each Season Pass Reward has two tiers: Regular and Premium. Regular rewards are free for all players, while Premium Rewards require players to purchase the Battle Pass.

Learn The Basics Of Combat

Fire Emblem Shadows Combat Basics

Combat has three Stages: Sun Room, Voting (to discover the Traitor), and Moon Room. During the Sun Room stage, every member of the party will fight PvE enemies, while the Traitor (those who choose to fight in Service to the Shadow) will try to kill their allies stealthily. There are some abilities that players can use to attack other players with stealth, while others will clearly reveal who the traitor is. The objective of those who fight for the light is to discover the Traitor while also defeating the enemies. So, the Traitor will try to confuse players by aiding them using Healing abilities or attacking himself. Fallen characters can still use Magic (but not attack each round), so that can be confusing for the band of Light.

During the Voting Phase, the Traitor will gain power accordingly to how many of the Light side he managed to defeat before completing the Sun Room. Then, players will vote, choosing which of the three members of the party is the most likely to be the traitor. If players on the Light side choose correctly, they will gain an extra resurrection token usable in the Moon Room; if not, they will only gain one token. The traitor, on the other hand, will be empowered if he manages to make others vote for the incorrect party member, thus gaining an advantage during the Moon Room Phase. Now, during the Moon Phase, the remaining Light Disciples will fight the Shadow Disciple and their minions, this Phase will decide the outcome for either side.

Magic Is Important For Survival

Fire Emblem Shadows Magic

Magic has three basic Elements: Blue, Green, and Red. Green causes more damage to Blue, while Red causes more damage to Green, and Blue causes more damage to Red. Now, there are three types of Magic: Light Magic, Shadow Magic, and Exclusive Magic. Light Magic can only be equipped by the Light Disciples and used when fighting for the Light, while Shadow Magic is equipped to Shadow Disciples, and used only when fighting for the Shadow. Exclusive Magic is inherent in every character; for example, Alberta has Elthunder EX, which causes Blue Damage to a single enemy. Exclusive Magic will remain locked in both Shadow and Light sides, and cannot be switched for other spells.

Equipping the Disciples with a balanced spell kit will be key to victory, so if a Disciple has an Exclusive Blue spell, try to equip them with either Red or Green Spells, but also support magic such as Heal or Pull.
