Despite how simple a game of Battlefield 6 may seem, there are a lot of things that players need to take note of when they’re fighting in multiplayer matches. Running and gunning can only get you so far, and if you want to improve your performance, you’ll need to pay attention to more than just your aim and reflexes.
In this guide, we’ve collected a handful of tips that will help you get better at Battlefield 6 multiplayer, including some overlooked gameplay mechanics, basic tactics, and the best settings you can change to make your experience better overall.
Best Settings to Improve Your Aim in BF6
The best mouse and controller sensitivity settings for Battlefield 6 are going to vary from player to player, but if you feel like your aim is off even after fiddling with things in the Options menus, you’ll want to know that the game has separate sliders for normal soldier camera sensitivity and ADS sensitivity.
You can do this by going to Settings->Mouse & Keyboard->Infantry Control Settings and set Zoom Sensitivity Coefficient to 0. If your aim still feels off, turn Uniform Infantry Aiming off as well.
Best Settings for Vehicles in BF6
Speaking of controls, right below the Infantry control settings section is a similar one for vehicles. Here, you can find everything you need to make vehicle driving, aiming, and piloting feel a little bit better.
The settings you need to change here are all up to taste. However, we do recommend turning on Helicopter Assisted Mode and changing Aircraft controls if you plan on using either of these vehicle types. Binding Aircraft Pitch and Yaw controls to your mouse can make aiming jet weapons significantly easier.
Adjust Your Audio Mix and Settings
The standard audio mix for Battlefield 6 focuses on clarity. You should be able to hear most things like player footsteps, the rumbling of vehicles, and unique weapon firing sounds well by default. However, if you want to make your experience much more immersive, select the War Tapes or War Tapes VAL mix. These two settings make everything in the game much louder and more visceral, though it may come at the expense of footstep audibility and other things.
How to Turn Off Damage Numbers in Battlefield 6
If the damage display on the left of your cursor is distracting you or watering down your experience, then you can turn it off by going to Settings->Graphics->Icons & Indicators->Crosshairs & Indicators tab.
However, it’s worth noting that the damage number display is actually quite practical. With it, you’ll have a better idea of how effective your weapon is at certain ranges. Of course, you can always just leave this to pure gut feeling (or use the contextual ping button to view a specific point or enemy’s distance from you), but it’s still something that’s worth keeping in mind.
Awareness and Positioning Wins Games
The first gameplay-related tip in this guide is all about awareness and positioning. While you can definitely rely on pure aiming and mechanical skill to win gunfights, having a high degree of situational awareness as well as knowledge of good and bad positions in any BF6 map is crucial to success.
If you’re not quite confident in your ability to win duels, but you still want to dominate lobbies, then you’ll need to rely on strategy. To improve your situational awareness and positioning in-game, remember the following:
- You should always take note of where the current frontline is.
- You should always keep track of where enemies are spawning from.
- Always expect enemies coming from the team’s flanks.
- Shooting unaware enemies is always more likely to result in a favorable outcome.
Avoid Meat Grinders
In BF6, meat grinders refer to chokepoints where large numbers of players from both sides are concentrated. Avoid running into these as much as possible, as the odds of you getting blown up here are at their highest.
Instead of rushing, dying, and repeating, try attacking the flanks. There are almost always side routes that players can take, but don’t think that the enemy team won’t try to do the same. Flank fights are usually smaller, and winning them is significantly more impactful, as they often lead straight to objectives or right behind the enemy team’s main frontline fighters. Attacking flanks is especially important in BF6’s smaller maps.
Stick to Your Role
The classes in Battlefield 6 are designed around performing specific jobs. Whether you’re on an open or closed weapon server, these jobs remain the same, and if you want to make the most impact as an individual player, you’ll need to keep these jobs in mind:
- The Assault class’ job is not just to score kills — it is to take space for the team by eliminating as many enemy players as possible.
- The Engineer repairs friendly vehicles while destroying hostile ones. They’re also great for blowing up buildings and other fortifications.
- The Support class keeps the team alive and supplied with ammunition. They can also fortify or deny positions by deploying portable cover.
- Recon players are more than just snipers — their job is to spot enemies for the team. Marked enemies will have a diamond appear above their heads, and they will also become visible on the minimap.
The Sniper Sweet Spot Mechanic
The sweet spot mechanic from previous Battlefield games is back, and if you don’t know what it does, it simply means sniper rifles can kill players with an upper body shot so long as the target is within a specific range. The M2010, for example, has a sweet spot range of around 75-80 meters, which means anyone you hit in the upper torso and above from that range will go down instantly.
You can easily find out how far away your target is by pinging/spotting them. If a range indicator doesn’t appear, try pinging the terrain near them. Alternatively, equip a Range Finder on your rifle.
Headshots Aren’t Always Good
If you’re using an automatic weapon, it’s often better to just aim for center mass instead of going for the head. Most ARs and SMGs have a headshot multiplier of 1.30x, which means they’ll only do 30% more damage to the head compared to the body. This usually won’t be enough to shift your TTK too much — the M4A1, for example, kills in four headshots or three headshots, one body shot. Normally, it kills in five body shots.
However, if you’re using the Soft Point Rounds attachment, hitting headshots becomes much stronger. The AK-205 has an even stronger version of Soft Point Rounds that boosts its headshot damage all the way up to 2.10x, resulting in a three-shot kill if all bullets hit the enemy’s head within optimal ranges.
