The second open beta weekend for Battlefield 6 has officially come to an end, but the community is already campaigning for DICE to drastically nerf the game’s movement mechanics in time for its October release. Although reception to the two Battlefield 6 open beta weekends has been generally favorable, some fans are seemingly concerned that the series is becoming too “COD-ified” in order to appeal to a mainstream audience.
Within its first few days, the Battlefield 6 open beta blew Call of Duty out of the water. The shooter’s return – although only in beta – managed to pull in more than 521,000 concurrent players on Steam during its first weekend playtest, which is 30,000 more than Call of Duty‘s record from nearly 3 years ago. With Call of Duty fans growing increasingly tired of Activision’s microtransactions and unrealistic cosmetics, EA’s more grounded approach seems to have won the community over. But some new changes have die-hard Battlefield fans unhappy.
Battlefield 6 Players Want Movement to Be Nerfed
As one of the two major franchises in the first-person shooter space, it’s no surprise that Battlefield 6 is being heavily compared to Call of Duty. While many fans of the latter appear to be jumping ship this year, there have been some new changes to Battlefield 6 that die-hard fans aren’t happy about. In a new post on Reddit, user Jaz1140 posted a short gameplay clip of the game’s eratic and fast-paced movement, saying that it “should not be possible” and that it “needs to be addressed.” The post has garnered over 27,000 upvotes in just one day, as the majority of the community appears to agree with the statement.
“It’s sad to see this possible in a Battlefield game,” the original poster said. “This COD level movement needs a [nerf] before it becomes the meta.” Apparently, plenty of other users seem to agree that these gameplay mechanics are too similar to Call of Duty‘s movement. Fellow Reddit user rasjahho suggested that DICE have a more effective fatigue system like it did in the days of Battlefield 3. The user said that movement and jump height should drastically decrease the more it is done, right up until movement is minimal. Others, such as NothingWrong1234 simply said that it was “cringe” to watch this type of movement in a Battlefield game.
This hasn’t been the only major issue with the shooter either, as DICE was recently forced to make changes to Battlefield 6‘s Rush mode in the second open beta due to massive backlash. While it’s still not exactly what fans wanted from the mode, the developer quickly reduced the MCOM timer from 45 to 30 seconds to please players. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the only problem with the mode, as many were extremely unhappy with the reduced number of players. With the second open beta now over, it looks like DICE has some big changes to implement for the game’s full release on October 10.
