After 3 Years, Jujutsu Kaisen Confirms Who Is Stronger Between Gojo & Sukuna

Gojo Satoru and Ryomen Sukuna are two of the most powerful sorcerers to exist in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. While Sukuna was the King of Curses and the strongest sorcerer in history, Gojo Satoru was the strongest modern sorcerer who stood as his equal. We saw both of them going all out in the Shinjuku Showdown arc, and in Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 236, which was officially released on September 25, 2023, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #43, the battle of the strongest ended with the victory of Ryoman Sukuna.

However, this victory did not necessarily mean that Sukuna was stronger than Gojo. Gege Akutami, the creator of the series, has on various occasions shown in his story that Gojo and Sukuna are equal in terms of skill but separated in terms of experience.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s Final Release Confirms Sukuna Was More Experienced Than Gojo

In the Shinjuku Showdown battle between Gojo and Sukuna, it was clear to see that both of them were incredibly experienced as fighters. As far as Cursed Techniques go, Gojo’s Limitless was the stronger of the two, and this was directly confirmed to us in JJK Chapter 226, but Ryomen Sukuna had decades, if not centuries, worth of experience that made him an incredibly adept fighter. While their skill was certainly equal, what separated the two in this battle was their experience. Sukuna had been fighting for way longer and, in the Heian era, had tested his skill against countless powerful sorcerers on a daily basis. Gojo, on the other hand, did not get as much experience and also died very young. Compared to Ryomen Sukuna, Gojo never got the chance to gain as much knowledge about Jujutsu, and this was quite evident from their domain clashes.

“Ahh, I’m glad! When it comes down to it, my Limitless is far better!” — Gojo confirms Limitless is stronger than Shrine, JJK Chapter #226

While Limitless was the stronger of the two Cursed Techniques, Sukuna was able to use an Open Barrier Domain, which certainly gave him a significant advantage. It allowed him to attack the outer shell of Gojo’s own domain and break Unlimited Void. That said, Gojo’s resourcefulness was far greater than that of Sukuna, as he was able to counter the King of Curses and match his domain in the end. In terms of experience, however, Gege Akutami made it quite clear that Sukuna was the better of the two.

Gojo And Sukuna Were Even In Terms Of Strength

When it comes to strength, both Gojo and Sukuna held different advantages. Gojo Satoru held the advantage of a superior Cursed Technique. Gojo’s Limitless was incredibly difficult to get past. Not only did Sukuna struggle to get past his Infinity and to counter his incredibly dangerous techniques, but at the same time, he was actively pushed on the back foot because of it, despite having not one but two Cursed Techniques at his disposal.

In the case of Sukuna, the advantage came from having a unique body. Sukuna’s body is said to be perfect for Jujutsu. With four arms, Sukuna can cast hand signs without losing battle efficiency, and by having another mouth carved into his belly, he can use incantations all the while buffing up his Jujutsu. This made Sukuna incredibly special in many ways and gave him an advantage of its own, but all things considered, these two were largely equal in terms of strength.

Meanwhile, Gojo Satoru was able to destroy and repair his brain with Reverse Cursed Technique on a constant basis, allowing him to spam his techniques repeatedly. While Sukuna was able to copy this technique, his efficiency with it wasn’t as good as Gojo’s in this regard. Gojo was certainly better than him, and this is why their last domain clash ended in Gojo’s victory. The main difference between Gojo and Sukuna eventually comes down to the King having access to Ten Shadows. With it, Gojo’s defeat was inevitable, as he had to fight Mahoraga and Sukuna at the same time. Without Ten Shadows, however, things would have been different.

Gojo Vs Sukuna Would End Differently Without Ten Shadows

In Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 236, Ryomen Sukuna successfully defeated Gojo by creating the World-Splitting Dismantle. This Dismantle was only created due to Mahoraga giving Sukuna the blueprint for bypassing Gojo’s Infinity. As Sukuna learned to expand the scope of his technique and get through Infinity, he ended the battle in one fell swoop. However, if Sukuna did not have Mahoraga at his side, then this fight would most likely have ended differently.

“That’s not what I want to see, Mahoraga. How long are you going to make me wait? At this point, you’re my shadow! Not the shadow of Megumi Fushiguro. Show me what you can do.” — Sukuna asks Mahoraga for a blueprint, JJK Chapter #234

In JJK Chapter 236, Gojo himself claimed that he was not certain if he would be able to win without Sukuna having Ten Shadows. The implication here is that without Ten Shadows, Sukuna would still have been incredibly strong, but he also clarified to us the ambiguity that would come with taking Ten Shadows out of the equation. Unfortunately, the answer to the question of whether Gojo would have won without Ten Shadows or not will never be revealed to us. At the very least, Sukuna would never have gained the ability to cut through Infinity. When combined with the fact that Gojo held the upper hand in the battle with his 5 consecutive Black Flashes, having already injured Sukuna gravely, and the fact that he dropped his guard, as confirmed by the author himself, we can say that there was a moment where Gojo could have won this fight.

“The reason he was cut down was also that he had let his guard down after destroying Mahoraga. By this point, Gojo thought Sukuna no longer had a way to bypass Limitless. Perhaps Gojo, under normal circumstances, would’ve been able to sense it and narrowly avoid fatality.” — Gege Akutami, JJK April 2025 Q&A

At the end of the day, the decision to kill Gojo was narratively important because, had Gojo won the battle, the story of Jujutsu Kaisen would never have gotten a proper conclusion. Gojo had to lose for the story to move forward properly, and that is what Gege Akutami did. Even if Sukuna did not have the Ten Shadows, Gege would still have to figure out a way to make Gojo lose the battle because there does not exist a world where Gojo could have won, and the story would have gotten a proper conclusion. All things considered, however, calling Sukuna stronger than Gojo isn’t exactly accurate. These two are even and will always be even, regardless of the narrative importance of Gojo’s defeat. This is acknowledged by Gege Akutami himself and will always continue to be the case.

PakarPBN

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.

In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.

The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
