Overpowered anime characters are so common that each season features at least 10 protagonists who qualify. We aren’t talking about Goku or Naruto, either; no, these OP MCs are so much stronger than every other character that no fight presents a challenge. Overexposure has caused a backlash to form against this archetype, but I cannot lie – I love a good OP MC anime!
Due to the absurd number of isekai and shonen shows that qualify, you need to sift through a lot of mediocrity to find those diamonds in the rough. My goal is to make that process as simple as possible by removing the fluff and highlighting the very best anime with the strongest protagonists. Let’s get to it.
Summer 2026 Anime With Overpowered Protagonists
Before getting to the full rankings, let’s touch upon the upcoming season’s lineup of OP MC shows. Naturally, Summer 2026’s anime lineup contains plenty of protagonists who can take out an army solo, and that includes returning and new faces. You and I love these types of series, and Summer should serve us well.
- Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs 2 – A fantastic isekai anime finally gets its sequel, and Leon returns to be the coolest mob character of all time. Due to his knowledge of the game, Leon makes sure he is equipped with the best weapons and has all the riches.
- From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman Season 2 – Not every OP MC has absurd powers; sometimes, they simply excel at a skill to the point of becoming true masters.
- The Exiled Heavy Knight Knows How to Game the System – GoHands’ latest anime might attract attention for all the wrong reasons, but its premise at least presents a different take on the OP MC isekai formula. Elma abuses his new world’s hidden mechanics to turn his class, the Heavy Knight, into the strongest in the game.
- Tomb Raider King – The latest webtoon to receive an anime, Tomb Raider King might fill the void while folks wait for a new Solo Leveling. Regressing to the past, Seo Joo-Heon uses his knowledge of Earth’s tombs to retrieve their powerful relics before anybody else.
- I Became a Legend After My 10 Year-Long Last Stand – The protagonist, Luck, should be incredibly powerful, although he operates as a rookie to hide his identity.
- From Overshadowed to Overpowered: Second Reincarnation of a Talentless Sage – A weakling who seeks to master magic reincarnates 400 years into the future, where he learns that his terrible knowledge far exceeds the current discourse.
- The World’s Strongest Rearguard – An isekai harem anime about a guy who becomes an OP support for a party consisting of only women.
- Heroine? Saint? No, I’m an All-Works Maid (And Proud of It)! – The protagonist reincarnated as the world’s saint, but she is totally oblivious to her role. Instead, she becomes the most powerful maid.

Best OP MC Anime Rankings
Anime with powerful protagonists who have clear weaknesses or equals will not be included, and the same applies to shows that do not emphasize their leads’ overpowered nature. Shows like Dragon Ball, Naruto, and Rurouni Kenshin will not be included, nor will isekai anime like Saga of Tanya the Evil, Mushoku Tensei, and Skeleton Knight in Another World. Their MCs are strong but not absurdly OP.
Also, Chinese Donghua shows have been omitted; that said, The Daily Life of the Immortal King is well worth a watch for anybody craving an OP MC animated series. The show is available on Crunchyroll.

Kiyotaka Taguchi
Clevatess is a different type of OP MC anime, as the protagonist (Cleavatess) imposes a few weaknesses on himself when he takes on his human form. A powerful demon feared by humanity, Cleveatess wipes out a batch of heroes who were set to kill him, and he responds by laying siege to their castle and destroying everything. However, the long story short is that he becomes the parent of a young child of royal blood. Alongside a zombie hero and a milkmaid, Cleveatess travels through the land, trying to determine whether humanity is worth saving.
Clevatess very much falls in the dark fantasy side of things, bringing to life a world that is unwelcoming to pretty much anybody. Cleveatess is not exactly a force for good either, as he is primarily driven by a desire to preserve his own monster kind. He can be cruel, vicious, ugly, and vile; however, he is also fair, in a twisted way. Clevatess is a great show and an easy recommendation for anyone craving a dark fantasy.

Unlike Clevatess, which goes out of its way to weaken its protagonist, From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman is built entirely around Beryl’s unbelievable skill as a swordsman. A fantasy story that isn’t isekai and doesn’t star a teenager, the anime goes against tradition by featuring an OP MC who relies entirely on decades of experience. Rather than simply being gifted absurd powers, Beryl worked relentlessly to master the blade, eventually leading him to take on a role teaching the knights (which consist primarily of his former female students).
Honestly, I cannot 100% recommend the anime, as it cuts quite a lot of chapters from the manga that really were needed to expand the characters. However, the production value cannot really be faulted, with the fight choreography being particularly great. The show doesn’t cheap out and makes sure to properly demonstrate Beryl’s skills in battle.

Kaiju No. 8
Kafka Hibino
Full admission, I went back and forth on whether to include Kaiju No. 8, just because Kafka is not so overpowered that he has no challengers. The anime is set in a world where massive and strong monsters regularly terrorize cities, so it would not make sense for the titular kaiju to be beyond unstoppable.
That said, Kafka can feel unbeatable at times, and he is only really matched by the absolute most powerful monsters, only one of which presented any sort of challenge during season 1. The protagonist is also constantly growing stronger as he gains more control over his transformation, so he has not reached his ceiling yet (in the anime).
Finally, Kaiju No. 8 is just an entertaining action shonen anime. Who doesn’t like watching kaiju smash things and, then, be smashed themselves?

I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability
Lloyd Saloum
While not completely unheard of, anime with overpowered children are surprisingly rare, especially action-heavy ones that regularly showcase the protagonist’s incredible abilities. I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince is not only an exception, but it also revels in the absurdity of a young boy demolishing powerful demons and mages like they are nothing. More importantly, the show has the budget and direction to craft set pieces that enable Lloyd, the MC, to go for broke and outshine most of his reincarnated contemporaries.
Very much self-aware, I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince blends over-the-top battle sequences with hilarious facial reactions, typically courtesy of villains who are utterly baffled by the child protagonist’s god-like displays of magic. Born into royalty but having no responsibilities due to being 7th in line for the throne, Lloyd can just spend all his time studying magic, and he is obsessed with the practice. In the first episode, he overwhelms a powerful demon so badly that the latter is reduced to a whimpering mess. It is great.

Villainess Level 99: I May Be the Hidden Boss but I’m Not the Demon Lord
Yumiella Dolkness
Villainess isekai anime have become popular in recent years, and that is likely to remain the case since the subgenre took over the light novel scene in the mid-2010s. For the most part, these stories feature competent protagonists, but they usually fall just short of being overpowered. Villainess Level 99 is a pretty notable exception, with Yumiella being an absolute powerhouse who basically breaks the otome game she finds herself in.
Finding herself living as a game’s hidden boss, Yumiella wants to just keep her head down to avoid a negative conclusion; however, she also decides to train very hard to ensure she can protect herself and the world if necessary. Before long, she has maxed out her stats, making her so overpowered that she terrifies the story’s supposed heroine.

Based on a well-liked light novel, Arifureta‘s anime adaptation got off to a rather bad start, with season 1 garnering quite a bit of criticism for its pacing and omitted content. While not amazing, season 2 was an improvement, and that upward momentum was maintained by Fall 2024’s third cour. On paper and in execution, Arifureta is the quintessential weak-to-strong isekai. The story even begins with a protagonist who is left to die by his classmates, only to quickly show them and become one of the most powerful people in their new world (and it happens pretty quickly, too).

Nowadays, isekai anime are inescapable. For every Sword Art Online and Overlord, there is a great but underrated isekai anime.
Flawed as the show can be at times, Hajime is a pretty entertaining protagonist. He is charismatic enough to justify his ever-growing harem, all the while demonstrating constant cunning and maturity regarding political situations. While he steamrolls most enemies, Hajime makes clever use of his powers.

Zenshu
Natsuko Hirose
The most OP isekai anime MC of Winter 2025, Zenshu‘s Natsuko has a power that allows her to give life to her drawings, and she has a vivid imagination that is filled to the brim with entities that could destroy armies without too much effort. A young animator who experienced early success but is struggling with her follow-up effort, Natsuko chokes on a piece of food and, somehow, winds up in the world of an anime movie she watched as a kid. As this story is known for ending on a dark note, Natsuko wants to help out the heroes and, hopefully, pave the way to a nicer conclusion; fortunately, she has a special pen that turns her into a borderline god.
Zenshu deserves credit for balancing an excessively powerful ability, introducing restrictions that ensure Natsuko cannot just draw away any threat without breaking a sweat. The pen decides when it can be used, and Natsuko has to constantly come up with new drawings. These limitations allow the story to maintain a degree of tension.

Bofuri: I Don’t Want To Get Hurt, So I’ll Max Out My Defense
Maple
Not every story set in an MMO is isekai; sometimes, an anime just wants to follow a girl who inadvertently breaks a game, driving the creators mad in the process. Bofuri is just a blast, delivering a stress-free experience that contains plenty of humor along with a surprising number of fights (season 2 in particular). Not experienced with games as she starts her first virtual reality MMORPG, Maple decides to invest all her stats in defense, just to ensure she does not get hurt. Due to a bit of luck and a lack of foresight from the developers, she ends up destroying the game’s balance, becoming ridiculously overpowered as she tanks everything thrown her way.
As it is just a game with no stakes, Bofuri‘s action sequences are, admittedly, style over substance. However, they are generally entertaining since they are driven entirely by the characters’ lovable personalities, and that goes beyond Maple. The anime wisely pairs the protagonist with capable but vulnerable players, adding a touch of strategy to all her encounters. Still, the most memorable moments almost all revolve around Maple’s silly OP nature.

Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered But Overly Cautious
Seiya Ryuuguuin
As with other isekai stories, Seiya takes the role of a protagonist also called forth by a goddess (this time Ristarte) to save the world (this time Gaeabrande) from an evil Devil Lord. And while Seiya has power levels far greater than most heroes Ristarte has encountered, it’s his overcautious nature that drives her to her wits’ end.
Whereas the OP-ness of an isekai protagonist is usually shown with them almost shrugging off most problems, Seiya’s overpowered nature is shown in his deliberate overpreparation for most situations. It doesn’t help that Seiya is portrayed to possess more than enough power to contend with most threats anyway. In the end, Cautious Hero shows that the true measure of being overpowered may rely not on how heroes showcase awesome power but on how they can prepare to settle the most intense of conflicts with the barest minimum effort.

The Misfit Of Demon King Academy
Anos Voldigoad
When Anos Voldigoad entered the Demon King Academy during the Magical Age, his antics had people brand him as a misfit. However, the titular protagonist of The Misfit of Demon King Academy is constantly hiding the fact that he is the reincarnation of Anos, the Demon King of Tyranny himself. After his realization that his descendants have grown weaker in power, Anos has become motivated to reclaim his power in his reincarnated state. This proved to work in Anos’s favor, as The Misfit of Demon King Academy almost always shows him to be better than most of his peers who also use source-based magic.
As the wielder of the Source of Destruction, Anos can bypass the usual limitations of his weaker body by virtue of his magic growing in power the more he gets close to death. On top of his impressive magical powers are physical qualities that put other characters to shame, such as having enough strength to carry a castle and spin it with one hand, as well as casually going faster than the speed of light.

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.
In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.
The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
