James Gunn’s upcoming Superman will feature another superhero from the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Fans previously claimed that they saw the character in the trailer.

The anticipated Superman movie is set to reboot the iconic superhero franchise, with David Corenswet headlining the film. Before Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Universe (DCU), there were talks about Henry Cavill returning to the franchise for another Superman movie. However, the Man of Steel star’s return was canceled because Gunn and Safran had a new vision for the franchise. Aside from Cavill, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman and Ben Affleck’s Batman are expected to be recast. Robert Pattinson’s Batman is not part of DCU. The next Superman movie is months away and will introduce another superhero from the now-defunct DCEU.

When the Superman trailer was released, many fans claimed they saw Supergirl. According to them, in one scene where Superman mourns over Kelex, a metallic robot who serves as the custodian of the Fortress of Solitude, they saw a reflection of a woman figure in the humanoid’s head. The sighting sparked rumors that Milly Alcock’s Supergirl would make a debut in Superman. A new report confirmed that it was exactly the case. “Alcock was picked as Supergirl almost a year ago and will first appear in Gunn’s Superman movie,” a report from The Hollywood Reporter read. It’s unclear whether the figure on Kelex’s head is that of Supergirl, but Superman’s beloved cousin is definitely joining him in the upcoming superhero flick.

Many were happy that Supergirl would appear in the Superman movie. However, some online users didn’t find the report a shocker as they somewhat expected it because Alcock’s casting was announced last year. They speculated that she was cast early so she could film with Corenswet. Even if Alcock will appear in the movie, fans should not expect a substantial role as she’s likely just making a cameo. Gunn previously named the focus of the film and it didn’t include Supergirl. “At the middle of everything is Clark, Lois and Lex,” the filmmaker said during an Instagram Live interview. “It’s about these three characters.”

Supergirl’s debut in Superman is great news, even if it’s somewhat given. The confirmation is a breath of fresh air because various rumors surround the anticipated movie. Fans are already excited about seeing Alcock in her Supergirl era in Superman. However, viewers should not expect a long screen time for Alcock because the movie is not about her. She will likely appear on screen for a couple of minutes and that’s it. Filmmakers usually introduce new characters in established movies or big franchises by giving them cameo roles.

For instance, Gal Godot debuted as Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016). She filmed multiple scenes as Diana Prince before revealing herself as Wonder Woman during the epic battle against Doomsday. Her screen time only lasted 7 minutes but left a strong impression on the audience, generating anticipation for her solo movie Wonder Woman, released a year later. Gadot’s performance was well-received because she captured the essence of her character and her debut was no doubt a success. Alcock’s cameo can turn out the same, especially since her solo movie Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be released next year. So, there’s no doubt that Alcock’s Supergirl will be among the things the audience will look forward to when they go to the cinemas to watch Superman.

Superman will hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
